Kentucky

When the state's Attorney General refused to appeal a humanitarian decision, the Governor used private lawyers to deprive marriage rights to his citizens.

After a federal judge struck down the state's marriage ban, Attorney General Jack Conway announced he would not defend marriage discrimination. Days later, Gov. Steve Beshear filed an appeal with private counsel, bypassing the federal court and his own state's legal process. To what end? If the Governor was acting on his personal beliefs, it would be one thing, but he is acting to the political demands of the electorate, and, just like Ponctus Pillate, replacing life, liberty and happiness with bread and circus.
